Invictus

This is Pi. My new friend. Three legged, yet full of confidence and joy. Everytime I look at a dog, my hope goes up. How're they able to be how they are? Some would say it's cos we feed them. But I disagree. That love is genuine. In so far as I have felt.
I look at him and I see joy. He doesn't hang on to a past that led him to lose his leg. He just walks and runs with his three legs. Pausing for a cuddle or a kiss. Why can't I be a dog? Someday, I'd like to be one.

Interesting..

scientifically, dogs evolved from wolves & became friends with homo sapiens for better access to food.. over many 1000s of generations, homo sapiens selectively chose dogs that look better & express more attachment to them.

But, a more appropriate response for your post would be "oh, yeah" :) why don't you get a dog as a pet?

I have two already. Will write about them so you know they exist. Had a lot of dog posts once.

Oof. Have never owned a pet nor want to. People say dogs, cat show real affections towards their masters.. maybe a good past time.. but why..? Isn't there nothing better to do? I know you have tonnes. Sorry, just curious.

Why this dislike towards something you haven't experienced? Unless you have a pet you won't get what it means to have one. Mine changed my life

Let's maybe say that having a dog is like having that friend who will always be there for you and never let you down. It's an emotional connection

No offence, please. Just indifferent to owning a pet & otherwise. My ignorance is because none of my friends & relatives have pets.. so, no second hand experience as well.

Do you think a human friend won't always be there?

I've quite a few friends who have been there for me through thick and thin. But with a dog, it's like an acceptance that comes just like that. You can't compare the two. It's unfair to both.

:) interesting & yes, it's unfair.

Really or you've given up trying to argue? I can wear people down.

And why do you post anonymously? Just curious. You can choose to ignore the question if you don't want to answer it

Oh, I thought I was not posting anonymously.

:) Ok Harini. My thoughts are not crystal clear on this, but.. here you go.

Pets are basically stuck with their masters.. remember Pavlov? they are so accustomed to getting quality food, sleep etc at the right time, that they basically become slaves. On the other hand, any living thing (humans included) that can live independently & knows it can find its way around, does not like to be kept as pets. They like to be treated as equals.

With human beings, it requires a decent amount of live & let live to be together. The number of ways a human can show dissatisfaction with another are numerous (anger, direct confrontation at one end to back stabbing in the other with various intermediate levels). With pets, these possibilities are drastically reduced. So, it becomes much easier to deal with a canine friend compared to s human one.

Then, we also tend to like when some living thing is totally dependent on us for its life & growth (not sure if it's bcoz of the Iam-the-master tendency or because of the responsibility of bringing up a younger living thing - human baby comes here too).

Well, you are posting as sun ray. Is that your name? I assumed you were Indian and that's not a usual Indian name.
Anyway, coming back to pets. I play with the strays in my area. I don't feed them every time. I sometimes do. But not always. I just pet them and talk to them. They respond to that love. I'm not sure if the only reason that dogs are the way they are is because they get fed. I'd like to think not.
With human beings, I sometimes feel we hang around with those that sustain our delusions about ourselves. Not all of us and not all the time but that happens.
Equality is not something that exists as status quo. With a pet, if you hurt it, it's not going to respond. But if it knows nothing but abuse, it still would. Same with a human being.
That's where the scale comes in I guess.
That said, I love dogs and given a choice between a human and a dog, I'd pick the dog. Even if I don't know both the human and the dog. Not because I don't like people but because I love the dog.

Am satya from a place named Kanyakumari in Tamil nadu, it's known for sun rise, hence the ID.

Yes, check out a series named 'cosmos' where a guy named Tyson talks about how dogs evolved from wolves & why.

Strays.. just be careful..

Hi Satya. I know kanyakumari quite well. Been there too. Got the name logic now.
My reaction to dogs and strays has come after years of being scared of them. So, that's why I know it won't change overnight back to what it used to be. I'm from madurai btw.
